It is with mixed feelings I am announcing that Alex Stojcevski is stepping down as Conference Chair for AAEE2015, as he is leaving Deakin University to move on to a new position at RMIT, Vietnam. Whilst we are sorry that Alex is leaving us, the progress he has already made in setting up the AAEE 2015 Conference leaves me in no doubt we are all set for a fantastic event this year. I will be assuming the position of Conference Chair from this point forwards and I look forward to welcoming you all to Geelong later this year.

I would like to welcome you to the 2015 Australasian Association for Engineering Education (AAEE) Conference, to be hosted by the School of Engineering, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment at Deakin University. The annual AAEE Conference is one of the largest gatherings of engineering educators in Australasia, bringing together delegates to discuss engineering education research and best practice. The venue for the conference will be the RACV Torquay Resort and the newly constructed $55 million Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training (CADET) at the Waurn Ponds campus of Deakin University, Geelong, Victoria.
Located on Corio Bay, Geelong enjoys access to the beachfront communities of the Bellarine Peninsula and is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road. The city itself boasts a thriving cafe culture, award winning eateries and wineries set to a backdrop of colourful gardens and elegant architecture. A stroll along Geelong’s stunning Waterfront will take you past the carousel, yacht club and Eastern Beach, with its swimming enclosure and the Botanic Gardens at Eastern Park.
The proposed theme for the AAEE2015 conference is “Blended Design and Project Based Learning: a future for engineering education”. We invite the AAEE community to enter into a dialogue about the future of engineering education within design/project-based and blended learning. With more students working full-time and with reduced ability to be on campus, the conference is set to answer questions such as:
- Can we create a design/project based learning environment to suit all students?
- What technologies are right to use?
- What types of learning spaces are required?
- How can we best engage the engineering student?
- Can we bring education to the student?
